    We call you on the number you give us and explain what we found, in plain language. If the quote includes the same quality, the same scope and the same service responsibility, we'll tell you so honestly.

The 10-point quote checklist

Use this on any quote, including ours. Ask every installer to answer each point in writing. A line that says only "as per standard" or "included" without a brand, size or number is worth a question.

  1. System size and expected generation

    The capacity in kWp, and how many units (kWh) a year the plant is expected to produce on your roof.

    Ask: how was the yearly generation worked out, and does it allow for shade on my roof?

  2. Panels: brand, type and warranty

    The exact panel make and model, the type (for example mono PERC, TOPCon or bifacial), the wattage, and whether they are DCR or non-DCR where your project needs DCR panels.

    Ask: which brand and model exactly, is it on the ALMM list, and what are the product and performance warranties?

  3. Inverter: brand, type and warranty

    The inverter make, model and rating, whether it is a string, hybrid or central inverter, and how long its warranty runs.

    Ask: who services the inverter locally if it fails?

  4. Mounting structure

    The structure material and finish (for example hot-dip galvanised steel or aluminium), its height above the roof, and whether it has been designed for wind load at your site.

    Ask: what steel section and galvanising thickness, and how is it anchored without damaging the roof?

  5. Wiring: length and cable quality

    DC and AC cable brand, size and type, and how many metres are included. Long cable runs on large roofs are a common item left out of low quotes.

    Ask: how many metres of each cable are included, and what happens if more is needed?

  6. Earthing, lightning protection and safety devices

    Earthing pits, lightning arrester, DCDB and ACDB with surge protection, fuses and isolators.

    Ask: how many earthing pits, what earth resistance is targeted, and how is it tested?

  7. Net metering, documentation, subsidy and loan support

    Who prepares and files the DISCOM net-metering application and other paperwork, and whether subsidy or bank-loan support is part of the scope.

    Ask: are all application, meter and inspection charges included, or billed separately?

  8. Installation workmanship

    Who installs the plant, how cables are routed and protected, and how the roof is sealed where the structure is fixed.

    Ask: can I see a plant you've installed, and will I get a handover file with test results?

  9. After-sales service responsibility

    Who you call when something stops working, who handles warranty claims with the manufacturer, and whether any maintenance visits are included.

    Ask: who is responsible for service in writing, and for how long?

  10. Hidden extras that may be charged later

    Items such as extra structure height, extra cable, civil work, transport, meter charges or monitoring that are not in the quoted price.

    Ask: please list everything that is not included in this price.

Why two quotes are hard to compare

Two quotes for "50 kW" can describe very different plants. One may include a taller, heavier structure, longer cable runs, proper earthing and every DISCOM fee; another may leave them out and add them later. Many low quotes miss items that become an extra cost or a service problem later.

For many commercial and industrial projects, the panel rules have also changed. A quote priced on non-DCR panels may not be comparable with one that uses DCR panels. Our guide to DCR vs non-DCR panels and the ALMM list explains the difference.

Can you check a quote for a home system as well as a business one?

Yes. The same checklist works for home rooftop systems and for commercial and industrial plants.

If it includes the same quality, the same scope and the same service responsibility, we will tell you so honestly.
