Step through a day on a 3 kW on-grid home. Solar runs the home first, spare units go to the grid for credit, and the grid fills in after dark.

On a sunny day the panels run the building first and send spare units to the grid. After dark the grid takes over, or a battery on a hybrid system. In a power cut an on-grid system switches off for safety, while a hybrid system keeps essential loads running.

What is an on-grid system?

An on-grid solar system is directly connected to the electricity grid. It generates power during the day, and any excess energy is exported to the grid, earning you credits through net metering.

This is the most affordable type of solar system since it doesn't require expensive batteries. It's perfect for homes with reliable grid supply and minimal power cuts.
